Friends of St. Andrew's

We are encouraging those who visit our website to become a Friend of St. Andrew's.

Let's start by asking a few simple questions. First: What is a Friend of St. Andrew's?

A Friend of St. Andrew's is someone who has agreed to take an interest in the life and well-being of this congregation. At the very least a Friend is interested in who and what we are. But more than that, we would hope that a Friend is also one who remembers us in prayer and who, when visiting Quebec City, tries to schedule visits to include a Sunday to join us in worship. Those who are able are encouraged to donate to the church as well.

If you become a "Friend" you receive a yearly newsletter bringing you up to date. You are choosing to associate with the oldest English speaking congregation of Scottish origin in our Presbyterian Church in Canada. We need and value our Friends.

But why is this important and why do we need Friends from outside our Parish?

The answer is because of the size of the congregation. At this time we have 24 members. They, along with the children and adherents, form a community of about 47 people. That number constitutes far too small a base for the well being of this congregation. Yet it is this small group of people who maintain what some would refer to as the chief heritage site of the Presbyterian Church in Canada: a congregation that dates back to 1759, a church building that dates back to 1810, a Kirk Hall from 1829 and a large Manse from 1837, along with a parking lot and yard. The repair needs are constant. We acknowledge the generous assistance provided by the Government of Quebec and the presence of an endowment fund.

We continue to work hard at having a lively ministry here in old Quebec. Visitors are constantly surprised and grateful to discover this place of worship. Indeed, part of our ministry is to visitors. Becoming a Friend of St. Andrew's is a way of providing moral and material support for work at St. Andrew's. It is a way of saying that you wish to share in the work and ministry of this church.

We invite an annual membership of $20 in order to be listed as a Friend of St. Andrew's. Please make the cheque payable to St. Andrew's Church, Quebec City. Our address is:
